Cameron Perks Coffeehouse, and especially its owner, Mike Fleming, have been described by customers as ?the heartbeat of the community.? Since opening the coffeehouse in November, 2003, Fleming has bonded personally with members of the Cameron Station and Alexandria communities. His customers now come from all over the Washington, DC Metro area, for the experience of spending time with him in his comfortable gathering place. For Fleming, who has an enormously positive appreciation for people, Cameron Perks is ?more than a coffee shop.? In October 2004, the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce recognized Cameron Perks as Alexandria's 2004 "Hospitality Business of the Year.? Fleming has a special appreciation for artists and hosts an exhibit of an individual artist?s work each month.
